On November 20, 2025, the Adapted Physical Activity Federation – Bulgaria (FAPA Bulgaria) held a working meeting with the leadership of the National High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences “Acad. Lyubomir Chakalov” – Sofia. The main focus of the discussion was the preparation for the upcoming Down Syndrome World Championships Bulgaria 2026, which will take place from June 13 to 19, 2026 in Sofia.

Representing FAPA Bulgaria were Slav Petkov, President of the Federation, and Emil Ivanov, responsible for the coordination and training of volunteers for the championship. The National High School was represented by Principal Ivaylo Ushagelov, Denitsa Aleksandrova – Member of the Board of Trustees, and Damyan Budinov – Chair of the Student Council.

A Volunteer Initiative with a Mission

During the meeting, the vision and scale of the championship were presented, highlighting its core mission to promote inclusion, respect, and positive social attitudes toward people with Down syndrome through the power of sport. FAPA Bulgaria extended an official invitation to the school to join as a partner through the participation of student volunteers.

Students from the 8th, 9th, and 11th grades are expected to take part in the organisation of the event by supporting the welcoming and guidance of international delegations, assisting with logistics during competition days, working in audience areas, and contributing to the opening, closing, and award ceremonies.

An Opportunity for Growth and Social Engagement

The initiative offers a valuable opportunity for young people to develop empathy, social responsibility, and practical organisational skills while becoming part of an international event with a strong social mission.

The school’s Board of Trustees expressed full support for the partnership and readiness to assist in informing, preparing, and engaging student volunteers. Additional details about the process will be shared through the official channels of the school and its Board.

FAPA Bulgaria expresses its sincere gratitude to the National High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences “Acad. Lyubomir Chakalov” for its willingness to support the organisation of this important international event and for its shared commitment to the cause of inclusion through sport.
