Sofia Gains Institutional Support for Hosting the Down Syndrome World Championships Bulgaria 2026

Sofia will host the Down Syndrome World Championships in 2026 — an event of international significance that will place the city at the centre of adapted sport. The Sofia Municipality has expressed its readiness to support the organisation of the championship and initiatives aimed at developing sport for people with intellectual disabilities.

During an official meeting, it was emphasised that Sofia has the potential to become a “city of opportunities,” where everyone has the chance for growth and expression through sport. Representatives of the local authorities and the Adapted Physical Activity Federation – Bulgaria discussed the next steps in preparing the championship and creating the conditions for its successful delivery. The Sofia Municipality will actively support the hosting of the Down Syndrome World Championships in Sofia.
