The President of the Adapted Physical Activity Federation – Bulgaria, Slav Petkov, carried out an inspection of the National Stadium “Vasil Levski”, where the renovation of the athletics track has already begun.

The upgrading of the facility is of key importance, as the previous condition of the track did not allow the hosting of major international competitions. For this reason, the renovation initiative was set as a major priority in connection with Bulgaria’s preparation for the upcoming Down Syndrome World Championships.

From June 13 to 19, Sofia will host the world’s best athletes with Down syndrome, who will compete precisely at the National Stadium “Vasil Levski.” The event is expected to bring together participants from dozens of countries and place Bulgaria at the centre of international sport for athletes with Down syndrome.

“We are extremely pleased that the renovation has already begun. We hope that the works will be completed on time and at the required standard so that we can достойно welcome athletes from all over the world,” commented Slav Petkov.

With the preparations for the World Championships underway, Sofia is taking an important step toward hosting major international events and demonstrating that sport is a space of opportunity, development, and equal chances for everyone.
